"And you thought the stepsisters were wicked.... I'm not who they think I am. A docile girl who meekly obeys her stepmother and stepsisters. Some kind of sick angel who cheerfully bears their mistreatment. That's what I WANT them to think. Because then they won't suspect what I'm really up to.
Sweet and innocent Cinderella...not in this retelling!
"Once I have enough white magic, I'll crush her like a beetle beneath my heel. Crunch, crunch, crunch will go her bones."
Cinderella is full of darkness. She wants nothing more than revenge on her stepmother and step-sisters, and her only way out is to win the heart of the Prince. BUT everything is not always what it seems, including the Prince!
Cinderella is introduced to her Fairy Godmother, who she nicknames Godnutter, and is given white magic. To earn white magic Cinderella must perform good deeds, so she scours every floor, and stitches every dress slowly earning her precious white magic. She yearns for the white magic to make her more desirable for the Prince, to become the most beautiful, fairest of all the land.
This is a short story, but filled with constant action. At times I wanted Cinderella to accomplish her goal and then I was praying she wouldn't! I wanted the best for Cinderella! I was rooting for her, but what is meant to be will be. The author did a great job of keeping the information constantly flowing and fluent. I highly recommend this dark retelling of Cinderella!
