I was beyond stoked when Harry Potter and the Cursed Child finally arrived at my doorstep! I had been excited to read this since it's announcement. The Harry Potter series has become a youth classic while a whole generation grew up with him. So now Harry is all grown, married and raising his own family. What sort of angst could Harry be dealing with now?
Harry's a superstar in the magical world, everyone knows his name. While Albus struggles with the weight of being Harry's son, he is often reminded how he was named after two of the greatest Headmasters of Hogwarts. The struggle is real for poor little Albus who didn't ask for any of it.
We watch as Harry and Albus struggle in their relationship. Mistakes are made, words are spoken, forgiveness is questionable. J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne were trying to make this book/script more relatable in real life. I understand where they were trying, but it didn't feel as magical or emotional for a Harry Potter story. This book/script was a much lighter easier read than all previous books. So many times in the seven previous books I ugly cried while reading. This time I felt less invested in the characters. Hermione seemed less bossy and not her prepared for everything self. Ron, Ron, Ron... Taking care of the kids?!?!?! Ron was always the lovable oaf who always seem to be hungry. Now he just seems to eat all the time and boring. This time we finally see a gentle side of Draco. Draco is a father to Scorpius, who becomes Albus's best friend. Scorpius is nothing like his father and there are many rumors about his line of heritage.
One of the fun things about this book/script we get to see the magical world in a different ways. What if the battle at Hogwarts was lost? How would the world change?
In closing this was a fun read. It's not my favorite Harry Potter story but it will join my collection. What was your opinion of this book? Did you enjoy it? Was it your favorite? Share your thought!
